Yay Christmas!

Right now I'm nice and cozy in the apartment working on a candy cane striped scarf. I forget how tedious crocheting stripes is but it will be worth it to add to my collection for the Holiday Bazaar. It will be the first time I've been involved in a craft fair, the Idle Hands Holiday Bazaar should be exciting. I've worked on some themed stuff, sewn ornaments and warm accessories. I'm also pretty nervous. I hope it's not a bust. I've also decided to finally put some things up on etsy. Whatever is left from the bazaar will go up, and maybe a couple other things I won't be taking with me. Wish me luck and soon I'll post a project, I promise!

If you can make it or tell a friend the bazaar is from 3pm to 8pm with a showing of Handmade Nation @8.

Just finished!

New to the collection is this dress I just finished. Having gotten the pattern for free I was willing to re-size it since it was for McCalls sizes 16-22. Fortunately for me the chart on the back included my expected amount of fabric for my size, and from there it was a snap. This is the second time I've used this pattern, the first time was a little more of a test. This time, though, I picked a fabric I knew would translate well into this style of dress.

I had to make a few alterations to the pieces this time around, and in combination with my dress form I now have a very well fitted dress to enjoy whenever. I think I like this fabric even more now that I've turned it into something. Next up is this a project with this fabric, it might be a skirt but I just don't know!

It's been a long time...

Wow, I knew it had been a while but geez. In between moving and everything I haven't had time to post. I have had even less time to work on projects until just recently. One by one I will share my projects I've completed and as I finish the ones in progress. Maybe first I'll share this:

Yes, its a mod of an Amy Butler pattern! I really enjoy this pattern, the Anna tunic. It is comfy and can be worked with for all sorts of things. This time I switched up the yolk and didn't use buttons. Instead I put in a side zipper. I knew I didn't want one too long, so I just made the cami length but decided to offset the funky yolk with a paneled bottom which is long enough to flair out over the hips. It was a great day project for a previously planned event, but when plans went awry it was ok because movie date made up for it!

More to come,
Kimberly

finally done!

It is only appropriate that a project that took so long to get going would take so long to finish! It took multiple drawings, very careful fittings and pinnings. Just when I thought it was safe I completely botched the front! Well, a few ideas and a couple days later ribbon came to the rescue. Now I have a nice new top with an awesome bow (thanks Marilyn!). For now it is pinned to the top cause I'm thinking I'll want to borrow it for other occasions. Also, in the heat of figuring things out a totally different project came to light that wasn't on the to-do list and yet is already completed!
Sweet new ribbon/lace cuff. It was a little difficult to do since for some reason my machine kept wanting to eat up the corners of the ribbon. It is cool though, its cute and completed! Now maybe I'll get back to things on the list!

Chipping away at my to-do list

I would have worked on my shirt dress today however I realized that I forgot interfacing. Then I was going to work on a gift but the fabric was in the wash. I picked up the next project however I couldn't complete it today so I didn't put my heart into it. Then I realized, I have had a top moving from one spot to the next, all ready to be fixed but just hadn't made it to the top of my list. Now was its time to shine, it wouldn't have taken so long to fix had it not stopped moving. See it above, its a satiny poly so it makes sense. I'm excited to show it off tomorrow!

So let's play a game. What is this picture of? If you guess it you get a homemade prize!

new project

I'm starting a new project that I'm really excited about. I've been seeing a lot of shirt dresses ever since I thought about making one not too long ago. I think the shirt dress for me was inspired by the fact that there are tons of plaid shirts out there, but for me plaid and shirt are separate ideas. I'll do plaid for something else, but for now I want a shirt dress. I had this pattern in my collection and I'll use it as a basis with the burnt orange leaf fabric.

my room

Clean and tidy, just the way I like it. That and I needed to vacuum so I cleaned. Also, I didn't want to mess up my sleep schedule so I had to find things to do so that I didn't nap. And now I can show off my collage wall (semi-in progress).

It looks tiny this way, IRL it fills up the wall more. Especially since the bookcase is immediately to the right and the wall is 2 feet to the left. Just below it you can see the tip of the corner of my body pillow. I can't really stand back enough to get that full image since then I would be in my desk. Whatevs. I think the fabrics I've put up are a good mix of ideas. I'm thinking about a long rectangle or a couple more like the tatoo rectangle. Not sure, what do you think?

This is just a test

I'm gonna try this whole blog thing out. I'll get my new camera this weekend and I'll do some things I have always wondered about. Like, photographing meals and posting the best one of the day, or the week. It could be good. I also will take pictures of fabric, take some input on projects or make you jealous that I, at any point in my day, could be so close to fabric I can smell it. Although, I just have to go to work to have thread in places I never knew thread could travel to. Trebuchet is also now my new fav font. Sorry arial.

Also, what do I do with these fabrics?
